Hver.is has a search engine that allows you to search for titles and articles, as well as all information that has been linked to the files in the database.
The content of the databases is divided into four main categories: Articles, Movies, Photos, and Reports.
The following tools can be found on the search page:
1. Search Window - there is a magnifying glass on the button where it says, "Site Search." Here you can type in your key words.
2. Drop-down windows for periods - These two drop-down windows give the option to narrow your search within a certain period by selecting dates from the beginning of the season to end. To select a year, click on the red arrow on the right side of each window.
3. Saved Search - In this window the content is gathered which the user has chosen as he examines the things that arise in the search. To delete items from the Saved Search, the item is simply selected and then you click on "Clear Search".
Some browsers need to be refreshed (refresh) for the change to be active.
4. Materials Window - When an item is selected from the search it published with the information that has been linked to it, such as name, picture, text etc. The user can add the item to the Saved search by clicking on "Save search button" at the bottom edge of the window. If the change does not appear in the Saved Search the browser needs to be refreshed. Other options in this window are: "Send" where you can e-mail the link, "Print", which gives the user the option to print the contents of the window.
5. Search in the database - When entering the search page you enter the keyword in the search box and check the appropriate year. You can narrow or broaden the search by selecting a year as a sub-category. If the user wants to find content from a particular period he has to identify that period in the drop-down window. To be able to get all articles related to hot water from the period 1974 to 1980, these year have to be selected and then type "hot water" in Search. In order to get movies from the construction of Power Plant, type "construction" in the Search window or the keyword "Reykjanes Power Plant" in the search window (note that you do not have to use capital letters). If you want to find photographs of all properties in Hafnarfjordur, type in "Hafnarfjordur" in the search window for photos. If you want to search for power plants, you simply write "Power Plant" in the search window.
If you are searching for Annual Reports from 1981 type "Reports" in the Report category and then you choose the year in the drop-down window. You can also select a specific period in the above drop-down windows and get all the reports within it (the search window will be empty). To get all the reports you only have to choose the appropriate year and leave the search window empty.
